BigSurv20 is currently accepting abstracts and session proposals. The submission deadline is February 13, 2020.
Abstract Submissions: Please submit your abstract or session proposal to the BigSurv20 abstract submission page at https://www.bigsurv20.org/conference by February 13, 2020. The abstract should be 500 words or fewer and the session description should be 150 words of fewer (in addition to each of the individual abstracts that are part of the session).
Presentation Formats and Presentation Tracks: Three presentation formats and twelve presentation tracks are used to organize the abstract submissions. When submitting abstracts, please select one presentation format and up to three presentation tracks that you identify as most relevant and appropriate for your abstract.
Publication Outlets: To promote the research presented at BigSurv20 while accommodating differences in publication objectives and cultures across disciplines, papers will be eligible for consideration in one of two selected publication outlets according to the conference’s two publication tracks: computer/data science and social science. In your submission, please indicate if you would like your paper to be considered for publication. When we notify you about whether your abstract was accepted, we will also let you know if you are under further consideration for publication. A formal paper will not be required of presenters who do not wish to publish in either outlet.
The BigSurv20 program includes three presentation formats:
- Paper Presentation: Involves an oral presentation of approximately 15 minutes to an audience.
- Poster Presentation: Involves a visual display combined with interactive author-audience discussion. Poster presentations will occur during a dedicated poster conference session.
- Demo Presentation: Involves a software demonstration with interactive author-audience discussion. Demo presentations will occur during a dedicated demonstration conference session.
The conference offers an opportunity to address the ongoing paradigm shift in how researchers produce, analyze, and use statistics. The event is intended to foster communication, collaboration, and understanding between two groups: (1) computer scientists, data scientists, and scientists in other disciplines focusing on emerging Big Data sources and analysis techniques, and (2) methodologists, researchers, and practitioners working on traditional sources of data collection and statistical analyses. By uniting efforts, we can identify and overcome academic and paradigmatic divides to make unified “Big Survey Data” population inference a reality.
To be considered for the conference, abstracts should be broad and forward-looking; they may be original research or syntheses of the state of the art. To organize the abstract submissions, the BigSurv20 Scientific Committee has identified the following presentation tracks. When submitting abstracts, please select up to three presentation tracks that you identify as most relevant and appropriate for your abstract.
- Combining multiple sources of data (such as registers, survey and qualitative data, media data, and sensor data)
- Ethics of data collection, processing, sharing, and use in the era of Big Data
- Measurement, feature construction
- Innovations in data collection: Methods and new data sources
- Advances in questionnaire and survey user interface/experience design and evaluation
- Artificial Intelligence (AI) or Machine Learning (ML) in data cleaning and processing
- Estimation issues using Big Data and/or survey data
- Advances in modeling: Machine learning, deep learning, AI
- Computationally intensive methods
- Quality assessments of various sources of data (such as registers, survey and qualitative data, media data, and sensor data)
- Communication and data visualization
- Create your own track (please specify)
Abstract Submissions: Please submit your abstract (500 words or fewer) or session proposal (150 words or fewer, plus each of the session’s abstracts) to https://www.bigsurv20.org/conference by Februrary 13, 2020. Your submission should include the title of the paper, all co-authors and their affiliations, and email address of the lead author. In addition, please remember to indicate your presentation format, presentation track, and publication preference. The author of each accepted paper will present it at the conference.
Session Submissions: Each session should consist of 4 to 5 papers. When submitting your session, you will need to provide a brief session description (150 words or fewer) and submit individual abstracts for each session paper (see instructions for abstract submissions above).
All abstracts and session submissions will be peer reviewed by three reviewers. Individuals will be notified of an acceptance or rejection in April 2020.
Please note that:
- Papers that have not been accepted for either publication outlet will be considered for presentation at the conference.
- Papers that have not been accepted for a formal presentation, may instead be accepted as a poster.
- If we are able to accommodate your publication request or recommend an alternative publication outlet, the editorial board will shortly thereafter reach out to you with more information.
More information on the presentation guidelines will be provided when abstract submissions are notified of acceptance.
