A postdoctoral position is available in the group of Prof. Patrick Matthias at the Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research (FMI), in Basel-Switzerland, to study the role of Histone deacetylases (HDACs) in chromatin regulation B cell development.
Our laboratory has a long-standing interest in understanding the biological roles of Histone Deacetylases (HDACs; e.g. Kwon et al., G&D, 2007; Zhang et al., MCB 2008; Yamaguchi et al., G&D 2010; Jacob et al., Nat Neurosci 2011; Miyake et al., Nat. Chem. Biol. 2016; Pillonel et al., Sci. Rep. 2016). Based on our recent unpublished results, we aim at understanding how class I HDACs interplay with transcription factors and contribute to essential aspects of B cell development and function, such as immunoglobulin gene rearrangement and related processes. Additional projects in this area interrogate the role of transcription factors for enhancer establishment in B cells. These projects use a wide range of technologies, from genomics to CRISPR-edited mice.
The successful candidate should have a recent PhD with expertise in chromatin analysis approaches (e.g. ChIP-seq, ATAC-Seq, RNA-seq,…), as well as some experience in analysis of lymphoid development (FACS analysis, in vitro culture,…). Ability to analyze genomic data is an advantage. Candidates should have a demonstrated publication record -with at least 1 first author paper published or in press-, be highly self-motivated and work well in a team or as an individual contributor. Excellent communication and organization skills are expected. A very competitive salary and access to world-class state-of-the-art research facilities will be provided.
The FMI, affiliated with the University of Basel and the Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research, is an international institute pursuing fundamental research (www.fmi.ch). It has a staff of 340 including about 200 postdoctoral fellows and graduate students. The FMI is situated in Basel, Switzerland, a city in the center of Europe offering an outstanding scientific and cultural environment.
Applications should be submitted electronically at
and include include a motivation letter, CV and names and email addresses of at least two referees. Applications will be reviewed as they are received and until the position is filled.
