PhD Fellowship in Synthesis of Metal Complexes of Mechanically Interlocked Molecules and their Applications

Applications are invited for one position of Project Fellow (leading to Ph.D. from BITS Pilani) in a DST Inspire funded project entitled “Synthesis of Metal Complexes of Mechanically Interlocked Molecules and their Applications” at the Department of Chemistry, Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, Pilani Campus, Rajasthan.

Project Summary: The project is designed on the interface of synthetic inorganic and synthetic organic chemistry. The main aim of the project will be to design a new class of molecular rotors, molecular machines and to investigate their rotational behavior and coordination chemistry with various metal precursors. These metal complexes and cage molecules synthesized by demetallation of rotor molecules will be used for various applications like precious metal capture and recovery, regioselective C-H activation reactions, C-C, and C-N type coupling reactions, etc.

 

Duration of the Project: 5 years

 

Eligibility Criteria: M.Sc. in Chemistry (Organic Chemistry or Inorganic Chemistry) with at least 60% marks.

 

Experience in the following areas is of advantage but not mandatory:

 

(1) Skills in synthetic organic/inorganic chemistry.

(2) Characterization of ligands and complexes by using spectroscopic techniques.

(3) Purification of compounds by using chromatographic techniques.

(4) UV-VIS spectroscopy.

 

Fellowship: 18,000/month for first two years, 20,000/month for next three years.
