Managing Director, Digital Development

The Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) is seeking a Managing Director, Digital Development, to manage CFR’s ongoing transformation across all digital platforms. This encompasses multiple websites, interactive features, video, content management systems and movement toward personalization and customization. Reporting to the Chief Digital Officer, and working closely with the Chief Financial Officer and Chief Technology Officer, they will supervise the Digital Technology team.

Editor, Education

The Council on Foreign Relations is creating innovative educational resources, which seek to equip students and the interested public with the skills, knowledge, and perspective—the global literacy—required to understand the forces, ideas, and institutions that shape our world. These resources include World101, a growing library of multimedia primers explaining the fundamentals of international relations and U.S. foreign policy; and Model Diplomacy, a multimedia simulation program that invites participants to role-play in the context of National Security Council and UN Security Council meetings. Both products come with an array of teaching resources and activities aimed at high school and college instructors and their students. This role will serve as Editor on a small team of staff editors and interns to help create, produce, and manage a growing range of multimedia content for CFR’s World101 course.

Video Producer

The Council on Foreign Relations is looking for a video and storytelling professional to join our award-winning Digital team to produce and edit video segments, video series, and media pieces for our websites and various distribution channels. The candidate will have experience producing, editing, and writing short video explainers, mini-documentaries, institutional video assets, and animated graphics in both linear and interactive storytelling formats. This is an interim, three month assignment with the possibility of extension.

Associate Multimedia Producer

CFR.org is CFR’s award-winning website and a leading source of foreign policy analysis. It publishes a mix of resources, including interactives, videos, podcasts, the Daily News Brief newsletter, Backgrounders, and interviews with foreign policy experts. CFR Digital collaborates closely with CFR’s think tank on its content and features insights from CFR fellows in a number of ways, including Expert Briefs and video interviews. The Associate Multimedia Producer will provide production, editorial, and administrative support under the direction of CFR Digital’s Managing Editor and Deputy Director for Multimedia. This is an interim, three month assignment with the possibility of extension.

CFR’s Washington External Affairs operation primarily focuses on actively engaging members of the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives and their staff, bringing these top decision makers timely, relevant, and useful analyses in an effort to further inform policymaking at the U.S. Capitol. Through discussion and examination of the critical challenges facing the United States and international community, the program seeks to serve as both a direct resource for Congress and a convener of leading thinkers and practitioners both on and off the Hill in a variety of nonpartisan fora. The secondary focus on this program is facilitating limited engagement with the diplomatic community and executive branch. The successful candidate will be skilled at working in a nonpartisan, team-oriented environment.

It publishes a mix of resources, including interactive InfoGuides, Daily News briefs, and backgrounders. CFR.org collaborates closely with CFR’s think tank staff on its content, and features insights from CFR Fellows in a number of ways, including web briefs, op-eds, and various multimedia. The Writer/Editor will work under the direction of the site’s Managing Editor, Deputy Managing Editor, and Deputy Editor and will work closely with the CFR.org team as well as the think tank staff.
