G5 Sahel: Much done, more to do

ECFR’s Middle East and North Africa (MENA) programme gathers four policy fellows and seven visiting fellows, working across Europe and the region. They produce papers providing concrete policy recommendations, and are in constant interaction with high-level officials, policy-makers, and researchers. The programme’s goal is to identify opportunities for European governments to facilitate value-driven political solutions and help stabilize conflict-ridden and fragile states in the Middle East and North Africa.

Responsibilities

  • Support the MENA programme’s events, advocacy and outreach activities in different European countries (organisation of events, logistics, sending of invites).
  • Help identify and liaise with relevant policy, advocacy and think-tank contacts and contribute to the development of the programme’s contact database.
  • Help develop the MENA programme’s media outreach towards journalists, bloggers and twitter users. Look after the relevant parts of the website and make proposals for innovation.
  • Draft and circulate the newsletter, compiling ECFR MENA’s work and relevant articles/ reports.  
  • Help taking notes and reporting on various workshops and events, both within and outside of ECFR.
  • Support the research work of the programme when necessary.
  • Other general responsibilities as may be reasonably requested over time.

Person specification

  • University degree in international affairs, EU affairs, public policy, political sciences or equivalent.
  • Ability to work within a fast-paced office environment requiring extensive interaction with others by phone and in writing.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills (a very high standard of written and spoken English).
  • Highly IT literate including website proficient.
  • Good knowledge of the EU (relevant internship in an EU institution or foreign affairs ministry is an asset).
  • Relevant language skills to the region are preferred.
  • Flexible and able to multi-task.
  • Good organisational skills and an eye for detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multinational team and to develop effective relationships.
  • A demonstrated interest in MENA related issues and issues of concern to ECFR is highly desirable.

To apply:

The intern will be expected to be available to work from April to July 2018 and able to commit to working between 15 and 20 hours per week. This and the repartition of these hours over the week can be subject to negotiation with the team.

This position is unpaid; however, lunch vouchers will be provided and travel to and from work within London will be paid for.
